Rubén Aguirre is an American painter whose interest lies in drawing attention to underutilized infrastructure, and changing the way public space is experienced, to build a better connection between people and places. The artist has produced a number of murals in the Chicago area, across the U.S., and abroad. Aguirre’s work creates an intersection of abstraction, formalism, graffiti, and muralism. His public work is informed by architecture and plays with re-imagining public space, while taking inspiration from architecture, landscape, and typography. He has exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Chicago Cultural Center, and in 2022 was awarded the Helen and Tim Meier Foundation achievement award. His work has been covered by Art News and the Atlantic. Aguirre’s mural work has been commissioned for clients such as the City of Chicago, Google, Adidas, Linked IN, Starbucks, and others.
