Ruben Aguirre, B. 1979, Chicago, IL, is a Chicago based painter who has transitioned from graffiti writing to abstract painter/contemporary muralist. He has created a number of murals in the Chicagoland area, across the U.S., and most recently, Brazil. Aguirre's work is an intersection of abstract graffiti, design, and contemporary muralism. His work is informed by architecture, and plays with re-imagining public space. With traces of typographic letter structure visible from his graffiti roots, his work investigates pattern, texture, and color field through the use of the spray can. He has exhibited in the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Hyde Park Art Center, and the Chicago Cultural Center.
